Lana Rowsell is a self taught Surface Pattern Designer based on the east coast of Canada, on the beautiful but rugged island of Newfoundland. She is endlessly inspired by the landscape and sea that surrounds her, from the windswept shores to the overgrown, tangled woods. She is most at home traipsing through the forest, taking in every twig, leaf, flower and animal sound or quietly kayaking as the sun lowers itself in late evening.  Lana also enjoys traveling with her family and uses these opportunities to soak up inspiration for her modern, cozy, sophisticated designs.  

Lana designs under the name Alder and Birch Studio and licenses her artwork on both fabric and wall coverings. She uses a combination of hand sketching and painting, as well as collected nature finds and personal photographs to create her designs. She weaves her love for earthy colour palettes, island living, distant lands and cultures and memories into her designs with the intent of bringing a sense of tranquility and calm to your home!
