How to Remove Peel and Stick Wallpaper Without Damaging Your Walls

One of the biggest questions we hear is
“Will it really come off?”

Short answer: yes.
Long answer: when peel and stick wallpaper is made well and installed properly, removal is simple, clean, and stress free.

At Wimzy Walls, our wallpaper is designed to look beautiful on your walls and leave just as gracefully when you are ready for something new. Whether you are redecorating, moving, or just craving a change, here is exactly how to remove peel and stick wallpaper the right way.

Before You Start

Good news first.
You do not need water, steamers, chemicals, or special tools.

All you need is:

  • Clean dry hands
  • A little patience
  • A gentle pull

If your wallpaper has been up for a long time, that is okay. Our removable adhesive is designed to stay put while you love it and release cleanly when you are done.

Step 1: Start at a Corner

Look for a top corner or seam. Gently lift the edge using your fingernail. Once you have enough to grip, you are ready to peel.

Tip: If the wallpaper feels tight, pull slowly instead of forcing it.

Step 2: Pull Slowly at a Downward Angle

This part matters.

Pull the wallpaper slowly and at a slight downward angle, keeping it close to the wall rather than pulling straight out toward you. This helps the adhesive release smoothly and protects your paint.

If you hit a stubborn spot, pause and adjust your angle. No rushing needed.

Step 3: Continue Panel by Panel

Peel one panel at a time. If your wallpaper was installed in panels, each section should come off in one clean piece.

Our wallpaper is made from a durable polyester fabric, so it will not rip, stretch, or shred during removal.

Step 4: Check the Wall

Once the wallpaper is down, run your hand over the wall.

You should not see residue, sticky patches, or damage. In most cases, your wall will look exactly like it did before installation.

If you notice a tiny bit of adhesive left behind, it can usually be wiped away with a soft cloth. No scraping required.

Will Peel and Stick Wallpaper Damage Paint?

When applied to a clean, smooth, properly painted wall and removed correctly, it should not.

For best results, we recommend:

  • Walls painted at least 30 days before installation
  • Satin or semi gloss paint finishes
  • Clean, dry walls before installing

Paint quality and prep matter more than removal technique.

What Makes Wimzy Walls Easy to Remove?

Not all peel and stick wallpaper is created equal.

Ours is:

  • Made from a polyester fabric with removable adhesive
  • Repositionable during install
  • Strong enough to stay put
  • Gentle enough to remove without residue
  • Resistant to rips, wrinkles, shrinking, and curling

That balance is intentional and it is what makes removal feel easy instead of nerve wracking.

Ready for Your Next Wall Moment?

One of the best parts about removable wallpaper is knowing you are never locked in.

Change your space for a season. Try something bold. Go neutral next. Switch rooms. Switch moods.

And when you are ready to peel it off, you can do it confidently and cleanly.
